Amphitrite

Geneva, Spring 2021

AMPHITRITE is a floating scene on the Rhône in Geneva.

Hidden in the woods of Aigues-Vertes, this theatre is mainly accessible by a hiking trail along the river. The intent was to have a staircase that leads to six independent floaters in which the user is fully immersed and floating on the river. The close surrounding forest creates a unique and intimate place along the hiking trail.

With a prefabricated structure in Lausanne, the building execution was primarily scheduled with the drainage of the Rhône during spring 2021. We wisely used this time to fix the foundations and install the stairs and sub-structure. On top of that, we attached the six floaters and waited for the water of the Rhône to rise again.

After the water reached its initial level, the floaters rose by a few centimeters. This is sufficient for the user to feel the flotation on the river which, amongst the view, creates a unique experience.
