The first part of the project focuses on the analysis of the urban layout as well as the potential of the site. Currently, the site is used as a parking lot and is located between the old cultural city of Avignon and the Rhône. This presents a unique architectural opportunity to blend modernity with tradition. The location’s rich historical significance and natural beauty provide a dynamic context for the project to design an aesthetically pleasing and functional parking lot. The site’s potential lies in its ability to serve as a gateway to the city, connecting the urban center with the river.

Additionally, the historical and cultural significance of the area must be considered. The parking lot should complement the surrounding buildings and enhance the area’s overall ambiance. The opportunity to create a functional and beautiful space that respects the city’s history, just like the natural surroundings is immense.

In short, these investigations of the Rhône River and the site’s context is vital to the foundations of Pile et Face.

Pile et Face is a project that articulates a long building that generates landscape pockets when facing the Rhone and squares when facing the city. Through the distribution of spaces and a certain permeability through the building, the project establishes a transition between two environments. At the head of the site, there are spaces dedicated to culture that contribute to the inclusion of the new district in the cultural life of Avignon.
